Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will hold a special sunrise event to welcome the first sunrise of the new year at 7:00 AM on January 1, 2025 at the peak of Bonghwasan Mountain. This event will be a meaningful time to wish for the health and happiness of the residents and to share a hopeful start to the new year.
The first sunrise on January 1, 2025 is scheduled for 7:47 a.m., according to the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute. To commemorate this, the event will begin with a vocal performance by soprano Son Jeong-yoon and a drum performance by musician Kim Haram at 7 a.m. The beacon fire performance and small firecrackers will be held at the time of sunrise, and residents will join in a countdown to welcome the new year with hope. This will be followed by a time to watch the sunrise while shouting cheers three times.

At the event venue, there will be various side events such as writing New Year’s wishes, fortune telling, traditional games such as tug-of-war, neon signboards, and event photo walls. Participants can enjoy an event that combines tradition and modernity while carrying New Year’s hopes. For safety, Jungnang-gu has conducted thorough pre-inspections with the police and fire department, and on the day of the event, safety personnel will be concentrated and safety and medical booths will be operated to prepare for emergency situations.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, the mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope that the first sunrise of the new year at the peak of Bonghwasan Mountain will add hope and vitality to the lives of our residents,” and added, “I will do my best until the end to make this a safe and enjoyable event.”
