This project aims to make the river a resident-friendly green space with the goal of reducing carbon emissions and creating sustainable waterfront spaces. It plans to move away from the existing disaster prevention-oriented river management and introduce sustainable energy utilization methods centered on people and nature to create a space where residents can be together with the river.
Uijeongbu City will invest a total of 5 billion won, including 4 billion won from the provincial government and 1 billion won from the city budget, in this project to create an eco-friendly riverside park along Jungnangcheon and Buyongcheon. The main project contents are ▲ Creation of 5 ‘sunshine shelters’ utilizing solar energy.
▲ Installation of a swimming pool and sky cafe ▲ Creation of a music garden and running active zone in connection with a music library ▲ Maintenance of lighting facilities and installation of stepping stones ▲ Improvement of public parking lots in traditional markets, etc.
This will not only greatly increase the convenience of residents around the river, but also have environmental effects such as reducing carbon emissions.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun emphasized, “We will transform Jungnangcheon and Buyongcheon into eco-friendly rivers in the city center, transforming them into spaces where residents want to walk and stay,” and “We will create a unique riverside park that encompasses experience, learning, healing, and culture to enhance Uijeongbu’s urban competitiveness.”
