Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) has created a new indoor garden, the ‘Wangsimni Arae Forest Path Garden’, by utilizing the idle underground space of Wangsimni Station. This is one of Seongdong-gu’s key projects aimed at creating a ‘5-minute daily garden city’ so that residents can enjoy the pleasure of green space and gardens nearby.
This garden, located in the waiting room plaza on the first basement floor of Wangsimni Station Line 5 (between exits 4 and 5), has been transformed into a small forest-like space that provides a meeting place and rest during the commute. Large flower beds and green pillars add natural greenery, and various plants and gardening props are placed on the walls, which can be used as a photo zone while improving air quality.

The garden’s interior was designed with the convenience of visitors in mind, and an automatic irrigation system was introduced to maintain a pleasant environment all year round. This garden is more than just a place to rest, it provides residents and subway users with the vitality of green space in their daily lives.

Seongdong-gu District Mayor Jeongwon Oh said, “I expect that the bleak space of the subway station will be transformed into a beautiful garden, adding vitality to the residents’ daily lives,” and added, “We will continue to work to expand the space so that residents can enjoy the benefits of the ‘5-minute daily garden city’ while interacting with nature up close.”
