Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 23rd that it received the Minister of Public Administration and Security Award in recognition of its contribution to promoting excellent child safety policies at the *’14th Children’s Safety Awards’* hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.

The ‘Children’s Safety Award’ is an award given annually to local governments nationwide for the purpose of preventing children’s safety accidents and activating safety policies. This evaluation was conducted through a multi-stage evaluation process including written evaluation, on-site inspection, online national vote, and presentation evaluation.

Goyang City has been actively promoting various policies in the field of children’s safety. Major policies include ▲diagnosis of disaster crisis awareness in the children’s sector ▲free safety education for workers at children’s facilities ▲operation of a children’s safety and security experience center ▲establishment of a Dream Tree Civil Defense Corps leader.

Key policy achievements:

Diagnosis of children’s disaster crisis awareness: Diagnosed children’s disaster response capabilities and provided systematic education programs.

Safety training for workers at children’s facilities: We provide free safety training to workers at children’s facilities to prevent child safety accidents in advance.

Operation of a children’s safety and security experience center: We provided practical safety education by operating an experience center where children could learn and practice safety rules through direct experience.

Formation of the Dream Tree Civil Defense Corps: Systematic education was provided to help children develop safety awareness through civil defense training.

Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “Children are our future, and child safety is a task that the city must prioritize,” and added, “We will continue to pursue more systematic and sustainable safety policies to create an environment where children can grow up safely.”

Goyang City plans to use this award as an opportunity to continue its leading role in child safety policy and to work harder to prevent actual safety accidents and expand safety education.
