Baekam-myeon Cheongmicheon River Dredging and Walking Trail Construction Completed

Yongin Special City, Cheoin-gu, Baekam-myeon completed the dredging of the Cheongmicheon River and the construction of a walking trail, simultaneously preventing damage from heavy rain and expanding leisure space for local residents. The dredging and landscaping project is expected to gain great satisfaction from local residents and become a new waterside space.

Yongin Special City, Cheoin-gu, Baekam-myeon announced on the 26th that the Cheongmicheon River dredging project that started in August of this year was completed in November, and the construction of a walking path including a metasequoia tree-lined street was completed in December.

Cheongmicheon suffered damage due to heavy rain in July of this year, with water rising to the top of the embankment, and problems with soil and garbage floating down occurred. In response, Baekam-myeon secured a budget of approximately 180 million won to dredge the river and secure the riverbed area to prevent damage caused by heavy rain.

In addition, Baekam-myeon has newly created a walking path for local residents to enjoy by utilizing the river embankment. Metasequoia trees were planted along the 660m-long walking path, and 8 types of shrubs and 11 types of herbaceous plants were planted to create a natural landscape. In addition, safety wooden fences and lighting were installed to enhance the safety of the walking path. 300 million won from Gyeonggi-do Special Adjustment Grant and 150 million won from the city budget were invested in the creation of this walking path.

Local residents are highly satisfied with the river restoration and the creation of new walking trails. Baekam-myeon resident A expressed his gratitude to city officials, saying, “Cheongmicheon has been cleaned up and a walking trail has been created, transforming it into a space that everyone can enjoy.”

Baekam-myeon officials said, “Dragging the Cheongmicheon River will expand the riverbed area, which will help prevent damage from future heavy rains,” and added, “We will continue to manage and improve the area to maintain it as a convenient space for residents.”
