Goyang Special City announced the winner of the design competition for the construction of the Wondang Complex Community Center. The final design, ‘Open Park, Open Living Room, Open Community Center’, was highly evaluated for its eco-friendly city image and open space design.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 19th that it had announced the winner of the architectural design competition for the construction of the Wondang Complex Community Center.
A total of 44 works were received for this design competition, and after preliminary technical review and first and second screenings, OBBA’s ‘Open Park, Open Living Room, Open Community Center’ was selected as the final winning work.
The contest topics were creative and three-dimensional architectural design, establishing an eco-friendly city image, and landscaping plans in connection with neighborhood parks. The winning work received excellent evaluations for its openness in the lower floors, organic connection with the park, and efficient use of the space between the building and the retaining wall.
The Wondang Complex Community Center is scheduled to be built at 406-5, Seongsa-dong, Deogyang-gu. It will be designed to have a land area of 2,388㎡ and a total floor area of 6,300㎡, with 4 floors above ground and 1 underground floor, and a total investment of 30 billion won will be made. Major facilities include a library, family center, and book cafe, and it will provide various cultural and welfare services to local residents.
The city plans to complete the basic and detailed designs as soon as possible based on the winning design, and begin construction in 2026, with the goal of completion in the first half of 2028.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City said, “The Wondang Complex Community Center will be an important hub that will revitalize the Wondang area, which has been lacking in public facilities,” and added, “We will do our best to promote the project to create a space that citizens can use conveniently and comfortably.”
It is expected that this Wondang Complex Community Center will become a complex space that encompasses local culture and life, rather than just a simple public facility.
