Incheon Jung-gu, Eulwangri Beach, ‘Visit Prevention Screen’ Installed on White Sand

Jung-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon) announced on December 19 that it has installed a ‘sand prevention curtain’ on the white sand beach of Eulwangri Beach to reduce damage from sand blowing due to strong winds in winter.

Eulwangni Beach is a representative tourist attraction on the west coast that is visited by tourists all year round. However, due to strong winds in winter, sand from the beach is blown away and piled up on nearby shops and roads, causing constant complaints and inconveniences.

Accordingly, Jung-gu has been installing anti-slip barriers every year since 2022, and this year, it invested about 20 million won to install anti-slip barriers and sandbags covering a total area of 11,700㎡ from November 21 to December 16. The barriers installed this time are expected to be maintained until the beach opens in May next year.

After the installation of the barrier, nearby merchants expressed satisfaction, saying, “It was very difficult to remove the sand, but after the barrier was installed, the sand stopped piling up and the area around the merchants became much more pleasant.” In addition, tourists responded positively, saying, “Since the sand has been blown less, we can enjoy the beach longer and it has become more comfortable to walk.”

Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon said, “We will continue to work to ensure that Eulwangni Beach can become a pleasant tourist destination that tourists want to visit again,” and added, “We will thoroughly manage the barriers installed this time to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.”

This measure is expected to improve the environment of Eulwangni Beach, provide a pleasant experience for both local residents and tourists, and have a positive effect on attracting tourists during the winter.
