Ongjin-gun, launching ceremony of 'Ongjin Cheongjeongho', a waste treatment ship for islands

Ongjin County (Governor Moon Kyung-bok) announced that it held a launching ceremony for the island waste purification transport ship ‘Ongjin Cheongjeongho’ in Mokpo on December 17. This launching ceremony was held in Mokpo where the ship is currently under construction, and officials including Ongjin County Deputy Governor Lim Hyeon-taek, Korea Maritime Safety Authority Mokpo Branch Manager Seo Mu-cheon, Korea Made Vice President Jeong Seung-ho, and Ocean Ship Technology CEO Lee Hyeon-heung attended to celebrate the launch.

‘Ongjin Cheongjeongho’ is a 208-ton eco-friendly hybrid ship that can transport about 50 tons of marine waste per voyage. This will enable the rapid removal of marine waste from coastal islands and Yeonpyeong-myeon, and is expected to contribute greatly to creating a clean island environment.

Lim Hyeon-taek, Ongjin County Deputy County Governor, said, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the related organizations that worked hard for the launch of the Ongjin Cheongjeongho. I expect that when this ship begins full-scale operation, the island environment of Ongjin County will become even cleaner.”

Meanwhile, Ongjin Cheongjeongho is currently undergoing the final stages of construction and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by the end of February 2025.
