Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that the 2-1 section (0.72 km) of the ‘Seongseok~Munbong (Soro 1-213) Urban Planning Road’ connecting Seongseok-dong and Munbong-dong in Ilsandong-gu will open at the end of this month. This is the second section following the 1st section (0.9 km) that opened in 2020, and the entire road is designed to be 2.6 km long and 10 m wide.
The road is a village road connecting Seongseok-dong (Gobong 10-tong) and Munbong-dong (Gobong 16-tong, Gyeondalsan-ro), and is expected to resolve the traffic inconvenience and safety issues experienced by residents due to the narrow road width of only 3-4m.
The opening of the road will not only greatly improve the convenience of transportation for local residents, but will also improve the logistics mobility of local small business owners, which is expected to have a positive effect on revitalizing the local economy.
▲ New road design with consideration for pedestrians with disabilities
This road is the first newly constructed road to apply the **’Goyang Special City Sidewalk Maintenance Guidelines’** newly established by Goyang City this year. It was designed with the highest priority given to the convenience of elderly local residents and pedestrians with reduced mobility.
Key features include ▲installation of large pavement blocks with high flatness, ▲lowering of road curbs, etc., which enhances the safety and comfort of the pedestrian environment. Through this, it is expected that pedestrians with reduced mobility will be able to use the road more conveniently and safely.
Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “I hope that the opening of this road will resolve the long-standing wish of the residents of Seongseok-dong and Munbong-dong and serve as an opportunity to improve transportation convenience in the region,” and added, “I will do my best to ensure that the remaining 2-2 sections open early in 2025.”
Goyang City plans to continue to expand local transportation infrastructure with the opening of this road as an opportunity and to promote urban planning that prioritizes the convenience and safety of residents’ transportation.
