Goyang Special City received the ‘Grand Prize’ in the ‘2024 Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and was recognized for its efforts to improve and sustain transportation policies. In addition, it also received the ‘Development Award’ for its high evaluation of policy improvement feedback.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 19th that it had won the **’Grand Prize’** in the ‘2024 Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the Korea Transport Institute.
The ‘Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ is conducted annually for local governments with a population of 100,000 or more nationwide in accordance with the **’Sustainable Transportation and Logistics Development Act’**. This evaluation analyzes the sustainability of transportation policies and selects and awards local governments with excellent performance.
This evaluation was conducted based on 25 indicators in four sectors: ▲Transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles ▲Strengthening energy-saving public transportation systems ▲Support for non-powered and carbon-free transportation ▲Securing traffic safety and mobility rights.
Goyang City won the **’Best Award’** in the ‘Na’ group consisting of single cities with a population of over 300,000, and was also honored with the **’Development Award’** for its high evaluation of improvement rate and policy efforts compared to the previous year.
◇ Key achievements
Goyang City received high marks for bicycle and pedestrian activation policies through ▲Car-free Street Project ▲Introduction of Bicycle Safety Insurance for All Citizens ▲Improvement Project for Pedestrian Underdeveloped Areas, etc. In particular, it focused on securing citizens’ convenience of movement and traffic safety, and its efforts to build a sustainable traffic environment stood out.
◇ Strengthening sustainable transportation policies
The city plans to continue to actively explore sustainable transportation policies in the future and to continuously pursue citizen-focused policies such as expanding the introduction of eco-friendly transportation, increasing public transportation usage, and strengthening the mobility rights of the transportation disadvantaged.
Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “This award is the result of Goyang City’s continuous efforts to create a transportation environment where citizens can move safely and conveniently,” and added, “We will continue to proactively respond to changes in the future transportation environment and do our best to build a sustainable transportation system.”
Through this award, Goyang City has once again proven the advancement of its transportation policy, and plans to continuously improve its policies to enhance transportation convenience that citizens can feel.
