Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Gil-seong Kim) announced on the 20th that it had installed an electric tent screen measuring 26 meters wide and 3.5 meters tall in the main auditorium on the 2nd basement floor of the Training Center Park Comprehensive Gymnasium.
The training park is a historical site where archery training and military service examinations were conducted during the Joseon Dynasty, and it has a symbolic meaning for archery, a traditional Korean martial art. It is especially meaningful because it has the historical background of General Yi Sun-sin passing the military service examination at this training park site.
Through this screen installation, Jung-gu has laid the foundation for inheriting traditional archery culture and activating indoor archery programs. In particular, it plans to expand opportunities to learn and enjoy archery safely and systematically indoors by linking with the archery classes currently being operated at Chungmu Elementary School and Chungmu Sports Center.
In addition, we plan to operate an archery program utilizing the gym’s idle time through collaboration with related organizations such as the Korea Archery Association and Jung-gu Archery Association. Through this, we will support residents to enjoy archery as a form of daily exercise, and promote various utilization plans such as hosting club practice ranges and traditional archery competitions.
Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, said, “Archery is a traditional martial art of our country and a national intangible cultural asset. It is a valuable activity that allows modern people to experience traditional culture while training their mind and body.” He added, “We will continue to support the revitalization of sports for all residents so that they can lead healthy and energetic daily lives through archery.”
Meanwhile, the training center park is a sports facility with historical significance for Jung-gu, and various traditional culture and sports activity programs will be operated in the future. Jung-gu plans to continue to actively support local residents so that they can enjoy healthy leisure time through various sports activities encompassing both tradition and modernity.
