2024 National Secondary School Football League King of Kings Tournament, Ulsan HDU15 Hyundai Middle School Wins

Changnyeong-gun (Governor Seong Nak-in) announced that the 2024 National Middle School Football League King of Kings Tournament, held at Changnyeong Sports Park and Changnyeong Public Stadium from November 4 to 15, ended successfully. This competition was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Football Association, and organized by the Gyeongsangnam-do Football Association and the Changnyeong-gun Football Association.

This competition was held in a 64-team tournament format with the top 64 teams from each region of the National Middle School Football League participating, and was held amidst the enthusiastic cheers of fans gathered from all over the country. The cool autumn weather in particular further heightened the excitement of the competition.

In the long-awaited final, Ulsan HDU15 Hyundai Middle School defeated Seoul FC Seoul U15 2-0 and lifted the championship trophy. Since its first championship in 2013, Ulsan HDU15 Hyundai Middle School has only finished as runner-up twice in the King of Kings Tournament, but in this tournament, it achieved the valuable feat of winning its second championship in 11 years.

Meanwhile, Seoul FC Seoul U15, which has won the championship twice in 2016 and 2022, was left with the regret of finishing as runner-up for the second consecutive year.

Seong Nak-in, the governor of Changnyeong County, said, “I sincerely thank the players, tournament officials, and spectators who visited Changnyeong,” and expressed his will to “continue to hold national-level tournaments in the future to discover and foster soccer talent.”

Changnyeong County successfully hosted this competition and further solidified its position as a sports city by actively utilizing its soccer infrastructure and tourism resources.

Changnyeong Sports Park, which was used as the main stadium, is close to Bugok Hot Springs, making it a popular place for training teams from all over the country to visit every year due to its convenience of being able to take care of accommodation, meals, and hot spring bathing all in one place. Competition officials also expressed high satisfaction with Changnyeong’s convenient facilities and beautiful environment.

Through this competition, Changnyeong-gun has shown a successful example of simultaneously achieving sports and local economic activation, and it is expected that more sports events will be attracted in the future.
